About

Tyler Smith is a narrative and commercial writer/director based in Florida. His work is defined by a strong sense of emotion and an impressionistic approach to storytelling. Driven to explore the depths of humanity and identity, he values emotional honesty and ethical production above all else.

Starting in the industry as a commercial and post-production producer, he quickly expanded into creative direction. His writing and directing credits cover a wide range of projects from television commercials to brand films, animations, social media promos, documentaries, and narrative short films. On the commercial side, he's been especially known for moving manifestos and emotional character-centered stories. In 2024 he was a recipient of an Individual Artist Grant from the City of Jacksonville as a part of a pilot program designed to assist practicing, professional artists residing in Duval County. And in 2025, he won a District Silver Addy for This is Y, a brand film he wrote and directed for First Coast YMCA.

His latest short, Never to Return, is now on the festival circuit where it has won Best Short Film and Best Florida Film at the Sunscreen Film Festival and had its West Coast Premiere at Dances with Films: LA. He is currently developing a feature film in a similar space to Never to Return but with a more expansive scope covering the larger story of the Johns Committee's persecution of LGTBQ+ people in Florida.

Tyler is also actively seeking representation in the United States.
